Typical cost: $5,500–$14,000 for a furnace or central AC replacement. See the full cost guide

Typical U.S. ranges from industry sources (2024–25); not EdgeLocal data. Your quote will vary with scope, materials and location.

Questions to ask this contractor

  1. Ask for a load calculation: A Manual J calculation sizes equipment for your actual home.
  2. Compare equipment line by line: Match model numbers, efficiency ratings and warranty terms across quotes.
  3. Verify mechanical licensing: Iowa and several neighboring states license HVAC/mechanical work.
