Curb Side recycling is required. This helps reduce the amount of trash going to the landfill. Each residence is provided one blue recycling tub. There is a $6.19 charge per month for this service. Please brake down cardboard boxes before disposal. Last year the citizens of Atkins kept over 116 tons of trash out of the landfill by recycling. There is a monthly Landfill Fee of $5.00 on each Water bill. The City pays Benton County $55,110.00 per year to use the county landfill, plus $25 per ton of garbage that is taken there from Atkins residential garbage pick-up. This fee helps defray that expense. Residents of Atkins can dispose of regular garbage and trash at the Benton County Landfill located at 7904 20 th Avenue south of Blairstown for a tipping fee of $60 per ton with a $10 minimum. There are also recycling charges to dispose of computers, appliances, televisions and construction materials. The telephone number for the landfill is 319-454-6392. Special yard waste tags are available at the same locations as garbage tags. The cost is $2.20 per container. Please put your yard waste in a garbage can type container. Plastic and paper bags will not be collected. The weight of the container must not be over 40 lbs. Waste Management observes six main Holidays through the year. They are as follows: New Year ’ s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If a holiday is during the week prior to or on Wednesday, collection will be delay by one day. (Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste would be on Thursday.)
