When budgeting for a kitchen remodel, it’s important to consider your investment parameters. You should also factor in your current financial situation, home value, and how long you plan to live in your home.    There are typically three tiers of kitchen remodels we handle at Hometown Restyling. The average kitchen has approximately 14 to 18 cabinets, and we use this range to estimate the project budget.    Kitchen Replacement    For kitchen replacements, we maintain the footprint of your existing kitchen while replacing all of your existing cabinets, countertops, sink, faucet, backsplash, and lighting.   Starting Budget : $35,000+ depending on project scope and selections   Minor Kitchen Remodel    The next tier is a minor remodel, where we maintain a similar footprint to what you have currently, while removing a soffit or moving appliances. We might also add cabinets or install an island.    Starting Budget : $45,000+ depending on project scope and selections   Major Kitchen Remodel   Our top tier is a major remodel, which includes  taking out walls, combining rooms, opening the space into a dining room or living room, and/or completely changing the layout of the kitchen.     Starting Budget : $55,000+ depending on project scope and selections Do you do cabinetry work? Yes! We are proud to be a StarMark Cabinetry dealer. StarMark uses quality hardwoods to build doors, cabinet boxes, drawers, and roll trays. Side panels are ¾” thick hardwood plywood—more than enough strength to support granite countertops.    Visit their website to explore their quality cabinetry and the many different styles and colors available. Then visit our showroom to see the displays with dozens of storage and functionality options. Do you have tips for surviving a kitchen remodel? Before the work begins, meet with your contractor. Your contractor will be able to answer your questions and provide specific details on what will be done and when, and how long your kitchen will be under construction.   Once the project starts, keep lines of communication open. Don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or meet with your contractor throughout the process to review progress and discuss the project schedule. Open communication will help make the experience positive from the start and ensure everyone is on the same page. Are your cabinets American made? Contractor and licensing FAQs

  • How do I verify a contractor is licensed?

Start by asking the contractor directly for their license number and the issuing authority. Licensing is trade-specific: plumbers and HVAC mechanics are typically licensed through your state's plumbing and mechanical systems licensing board; electrical contractors are licensed through your state's electrical licensing authority; general construction contractors register with your state licensing board. You can look up license status online through your state's professional licensing bureau online or through your state's contractor registration database. Before any work begins, also ask for a current certificate of general liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. Confirm the coverage limits are adequate for your project—at minimum $1 million in general liability. EdgeLocal profiles include ratings and direct contact info, but license verification must be confirmed directly with the contractor and the relevant state agency.

  • Should I get multiple quotes from contractors?

Yes—always get at least two or three quotes before hiring any contractor for significant work. Multiple quotes let you compare price, scope, materials, and timeline, and help you spot outliers: a quote significantly lower than others may indicate missing scope or cut corners, while a much higher quote may not be justified. When collecting quotes, give each contractor a clear description of the project so you can make accurate comparisons. Ask each to break out labor and materials separately when possible, and confirm what's included: demolition, permits, materials, cleanup, and warranty. Ask for estimated start dates and project duration as well. Use EdgeLocal to quickly find several rated contractors in your area so you can start the quote process without extensive additional research.
