Stained Glass Custom Ordering Here are some helpful steps in preparing to order custom glass.  Decide what type of design you might like, keeping in mind that the more detail involved, the more the piece is likely to cost. You don’t need to know exactly what you want, but having some ideas helps us with designing your project. Is there a theme you love? (garden, birds, abstract, religious.) Is there an architectural style you have in mind? Do you have any details in the space that you would like to compliment? Can you find a pattern you like in a pattern book or online, even if you might need to modify it? Do you have a picture of a window or cabinet that you like?  Next, get an idea of the colors you want to work into the design.  Decide if you would like to see through the glass or not. There are situations where you may want to see through the glass, and other situations where you’d like to use the glass to keep someone from seeing through.  Next, you will need to know the dimensions of the piece. We will explain the exact measurements needed for your design at the time of ordering to ensure a proper fit. For cabinet doors, you will want the dimension of the opening where the glass will sit, not the actual hole. For windows, you want the inside dimension where the glass will hang. For a door or sidelight you need the dimension of the glass you can see, from edge to edge. Anything rounded will need a more specific dimension.  Now it is time to order. When you talk with us, we can provide ideas and choices as well as walk you through the details of the project. Installation will be discussed at this time. When everything is decided, we will give you an estimated cost and time of completion. Custom Design Inquiry Form This process can feel a bit overwhelming at first. Contractor and licensing FAQs

  • How do I verify a contractor is licensed?

Start by asking the contractor directly for their license number and the issuing authority. Licensing is trade-specific: plumbers and HVAC mechanics are typically licensed through your state's plumbing and mechanical systems licensing board; electrical contractors are licensed through your state's electrical licensing authority; general construction contractors register with your state licensing board. You can look up license status online through your state's professional licensing bureau online or through your state's contractor registration database. Before any work begins, also ask for a current certificate of general liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. Confirm the coverage limits are adequate for your project—at minimum $1 million in general liability. EdgeLocal profiles include ratings and direct contact info, but license verification must be confirmed directly with the contractor and the relevant state agency.

  • Should I get multiple quotes from contractors?

Yes—always get at least two or three quotes before hiring any contractor for significant work. Multiple quotes let you compare price, scope, materials, and timeline, and help you spot outliers: a quote significantly lower than others may indicate missing scope or cut corners, while a much higher quote may not be justified. When collecting quotes, give each contractor a clear description of the project so you can make accurate comparisons. Ask each to break out labor and materials separately when possible, and confirm what's included: demolition, permits, materials, cleanup, and warranty. Ask for estimated start dates and project duration as well. Use EdgeLocal to quickly find several rated contractors in your area so you can start the quote process without extensive additional research.
